East Central ISD in Texas - Region 20

East Central ISD is located in San Antonio, TX of Bexar County. It consist of 12 schools including 1 Pre-K school, 5 elementary schools, 2 intermediate schools, 2 middle schools, 1 high school, and 1 specialty school. Currently, the district has received a rating of "Met Standard" from the Texas Education Agency. As of that year, the district instructed 9,689 students. Dual Language Program

East Central ISD has adopted the Two-Way Dual Language Program. Starting at the kindergarten level, English speaking and Spanish speaking students will be taught in two languages (English and Spanish). In elementary school, the 90/10 model will be followed where the majority of the instruction will be in Spanish, and English will gradually be implemented into the instruction. At the middle and high school level, instruction will be given in Spanish for a minimum of two classes.

College Credit Courses and College/Career Readiness

College credit courses are offered in a vast variety. Besides the core subject’s students can gain college credit in:

The district also offers the AVID Program, which helps students start preparing for the rigorousness of high school and college. East Central ISD also provides students the opportunity to gain the skills and certifications they need to be ready to enter into the workforce. This way students have more than a high school diploma to impress prospective employers, and they have the skills needed to obtain employment.

Students will be able to showcase their talents in exhibits and art fairs, such as the East Central District Art Fair, and give performances in shows such as the East Central High School Choral Department's Spring Spectacular "Hooray for Hollywood."

Electronic Courses

Some of the schools within the district are approved to offer electronic courses to students who are deemed eligible. The e-courses are TEKS based instruction and are approved by the state. The lessons are taught by Texas certified teachers who have been trained on proper instruction of e-courses.
