Academic Achievements

Eanes ISD has a proud history of academic success. In both 2006 and 2007 the district earned a “recognized” rating form the Texas Education Agency’s Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS). Eight of the nine schools received “exemplary” ratings. Westlake High School is the only 9-12 5A high school in Texas to receive this distinction. In the same year, Eanes ISD also earned eight Gold Performance Acknowledgments. In addition to shining on the state level, the school district has earned national recognition. Over the past few years the U.S. Department of Education has named seven Eanes ISD schools as Blue Ribbon Schools.

Students in Eanes ISD also excel on standardized tests. On every section of the 2007 Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS), more than 90% of students met the standard. In most subjects, more than 50% received commended scores. On national standardized tests, students from Eanes ISD’s Westlake High School regularly score above both the state and national levels. The average SAT score in Texas is 1481 on a 2100 point scale, and the national average is 1511. Students from Westlake High School average 1758. During the 2007-08 school year, Eanes ISD had twenty-six semi-finalists in the National Merit Competition. On the ACT, Eanes ISD students have an average score of 25.6, significantly higher than the state average of 20.5 and the national average of 21.2. Students from Westlake High School have consistently performed well on Advanced Placement exams. In 2007, 82% of the more than 2,300 tests taken by Eanes ISD students received at least a 3, the typical minimum score needed for earning college credit.

A Great Place to Teach

Eanes ISD’s proud successes are only made possible thanks to the great community of hard-working teachers who are dedicated to their students’ education. Several teachers have been recognized on the state or national level for their accomplishments.

Those who teach courses in high-demand subjects such as special education, foreign language, math, and science can also have some of their school loans forgiven.

Besides offering one of the highest salaries in central Texas and traditional medical benefits, Eanes ISD also provides teachers with a wide variety of other benefits. Employees’ children, even if they live outside of the district, can attend school there for free. For those who are too young to attend elementary school, the district provides quality, affordable early childhood care. Elementary schools also offer after-school programs for Eanes ISD children, including employees’ kids. A mentorship program for new teachers helps them develop their teaching skills.
