Friendswood ISD was established on December 21, 1948, and covers 15 square miles. Niche K-12 ranked FISD as the #1 School District in the Houston Metro Area. Demographics

The district has over 5,900 enrolled into their schools, and their numbers continues to grow. The student body is very diverse and 75.67% of students are of Anglo descent; 14.97% Hispanic; 1.96% African American; 5.57% other. Eight percent of the students are economically disadvantaged and 2.25 of the students have a small proficiency in the English language.

Teaching in Friendswood ISD

FISD offers teachers a competitive salary, great benefits, longevity stipends, and compensation for graduate level coursework. The district also offers staff and professional development to ensure that teachers have a great support system, and their skills continue to be nurtured.

STAAR Testing/End of Course

Friendswood ISD students scored well above of the state average for the STAAR exam and End of Course exam. On the Reading STAAR, grades 3-8 scored an average of 93%. Third though eight graders scored an average of 94% on the Math STAAR. Eight graders scored an average of 81% on the Social Studies STAAR, and 89% on the Science STAAR. Fifth graders scored an average of 88% on the Science STAAR. Fourth graders scored an average of 92% on the Writing STAAR, while Seventh graders scored an average of 89% on the writing.

For the 2014 End of Course Exams students scored an average of 98 on U.S. History Section; 90 for English I; 93 for English II; 100 for Biology; 98 for Algebra I.

ACT/SAT Testing

Friendswood ISD’s students score was well above the state and national average for ACT and SAT scores, with a composite score of 1,625 on the SAT and 25 on the ACT.
Gifted and Talented Program

K-12 students who show a high academic performance are often enrolled in the GT program offered at their school. GT teachers have received in depth training in order to adequately meet the educational needs of their students, which includes 30 hours of staff development that focuses on teaching strategies. GT students in grade K-3rd are in a program called SEARCH, students 6th-8th are in Pre-AP, and students 9-12th are in Advanced Placement Classes. On their AP Exams, 75.1% of the high school students scored a 3, 4, or 5.

Career, Technology, and Education

Friendswood ISD offers a variety of CTE programs to help students prepare for their college and/or career goals. CTE classes are offered at junior high and high school level. Program clusters include

In 2015 Friendswood ISD dispersed 2,818 chromebooks and 390 iPads/mini and has increased internet bandwidth up to 300 megabits per second.
