24/12 Exception

The 24/12 exception allows for some flexibility to occur during the hiring process. In certain circumstances a 24/12 exception will allow a district to hire you prior to passing your TExES contest test. To qualify, you must have 12 lower level credit hours and 12 upper level credit hours in a specific subject area.

Example: Art EC-12 (would need at minimum 12 lower level credits and 12 upper level credits of Art on college transcripts)

The program strongly advocates taking your TExES content test early in the program so you can find a teaching job to begin your internship. Even if you do qualify for the 24/12 exception, you would still be required to take and pass your content exam during your internship.

The exception is mainly used late in the hiring season when a teacher needs to begin immediately.
