The Languages Other Than English (LOTE) Spanish
certification exam allows you to teach Spanish at the elementary school
through high school level, kindergarten through 12th grade. This exam is
replacing the ExCET 6-12 Spanish test. The LOTE combines the Spanish
exam and oral proficiency exam into one test.
The Bilingual Target Language Proficiency Test (BTLPT) exam must be
taken by applicants pursuing a bilingual certification area to be
recommended for their Standard Teaching Certificate. The exam does not
have to be completed before a district will consider you for employment,
but it does make your application stronger by having this state
requirement completed.
