Region 13 - Burnet Consolidated Independent School District

Overview of Burnet CISD

Burnet Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) is a small school district with four elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school, two alternative school campuses, and one special education facility. The district is located in Burnet, TX, approximately 50 miles northwest of the capital city of Austin.

Among the student population, 77% are Caucasian, 20% are Hispanic, and 1.5% are African American. More than 44% come from economically disadvantaged families, while just under 5% are enrolled in bilingual or ESL programs. Nearly 15% of students also take part in special education.

In the year 2007 Burnet CISD received an “academically acceptable” rating under the Texas Education Agency’s Academic Excellence Indicator System. The future looks even brighter, however, as all four elementary schools received a “recognized” rating, meaning that at least 75% of students met or exceeded the standard score on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills. Three schools received Gold Performance Acknowledgments, which recognize success in factors not considered in the accountability ratings. In the year 2006, the mean score on the SAT was 985, and the mean ACT score was 20.8.

In addition to providing students with a quality classroom education, Burnet CISD also has unique year-round online middle school and high school programs. Students enrolled in these classes can work toward either credit recovery or advancement. So far, more than 500 students have completed some kind of coursework through this exciting online program.

Alternative Certification Programs

If you are interested in joining the staff of Burnet CISD or in teaching in any other school district in the state of Texas but do not have a teaching certificate, our online certification program can help you complete the process quickly and efficiently. Web-Centric Alternative Certification Program (WCACP), is an online program that gives future teachers the opportunity to work at their own pace toward completing the certification process in a variety of subjects. The program serves as the prerequisite or co-requisite to a one-year teaching internship that the state requires for full certification.

Because the program is conducted entirely online, it is especially ideal for people who have a full time job or responsibilities raising a family. Students who have plenty of time to dedicate to their coursework can finish the academic load in approximately 3-4 months.

In order to enroll in the WCACP, you must have a bachelor’s degree with a 2.5 GPA in any field from an accredited college or university.
