Mentoring

For an alternative certification program to be successful, mentoring must take place between the teaching intern and a mentor teacher.  Most alternative teaching certification programs have some form of mentoring program.  It allows the teaching intern to have further guidance once they begin their one year teaching internship.   By having a mentor, a teaching intern eliminates much of the frustration of trial and error in their first year of teaching.  The mentor can provide valuable insight and resources to the teachers to allow them to successfully transition into their first year of teaching.  Without a mentor, a first year teacher can feel an alienating sense of isolation that could undoubtedly drive first year teachers away from the profession.

Racism

Racism prevails in society when individuals believe one race is superior to another by virtue of economic advantages or specific achievements they have made. The subordinate group experiences a tremendous amount of prejudice in many cases simply due to a lower economic standing in society. The presumed superiority or inferiority of members of a society is often used to justify the imbalanced distribution of wealth, power and prestige throughout the world. In addition, groups at the top of the social hierarchy believe they can justify the unequal distribution of societal rewards as a result of the innate differences among these groups.

Blended Learning

Blended learning has emerged as a very effective way to combine online and face-to-face approaches to learning.  Blended learning is a way to educate from a distance (i.e., email, learning management system, or video) combined with traditional face-to-face education or training.  Blended Learning can be an innovative way to approach your learning needs for your school district.

School Safety

There is no greater challenge for educators today than creating a safe
learning environment for all students. School safety is an issue that is
receiving increased attention that is well deserved. In an ideal world, each
student and staff member would be protected from a disruptive student, angry
intruder or violent terrorist. Unfortunately, the reality is that there are
an unlimited number of crisis that can occur which makes it virtually
impossible to prepare for every possible instance. However, schools armed
with the simple knowledge of these crisis possibilities can become better
aware and prepared.

Learning Management System

A learning management system (LMS) is an online system that manages the delivery of self-paced, elearning courses. These courses can be taken entirely online using components such as journals, discussion boards, chats, choices, assignment, and quizzes. The LMS provides online reports for each course for the student and teacher.

The learning management system can also be used as a supplement for face-to-face trainings.

Teacher Certification

The traditional teacher certification route is through an approved teaching program at a state or community college. The teacher certification program usually lasts anywhere from four to six years. Mandatory basic competency courses, along with education classes must be fulfilled. The individual will then take the qualifying TExES or ExCET exams. Standard teacher certification programs then requires an intern to complete one or two semesters of field experience. After all appropriate teacher certification tests have been passed, the individual becomes a certified teacher in Texas.
