The Web-Centric Alternative Certification Program (WCACP) is 100% online, which allows candidates to complete assignments and coursework in the comfort of their own home. The program does not require candidates to attend face-to-face workshops or seminars like traditional alternative certification programs. WCACP uses the Internet for all face-to-face or synchronous group activities.
Training classes are divided into small groups to allow for candidates to provide correspondence and feedback with other candidates in the program. Cohort groups are selected according to grade level and subject area certification, encouraging a collaborative learning experience for all candidates and interns.
Components Involved in the Online Program:
A learning management system guides you through online modules that build the foundation of teaching knowledge needed to successfully enter the classroom. The online modules involve assignments, journal entries, surveys, chats, and forums. Online modules are project based and collaborative instead of traditional online training consisting of question and answer formats.
Candidates use a videoconferencing and whiteboard system, allowing a small group (3-4) and individual face-to-face discussion or chats with a Program Administrator. The videoconferencing system allows you to easily dial the Program Administrators and other teaching candidates by accessing your interactive address book. This technology is utilized to ensure each candidate receives adequate instruction and constructive feedback on their journey to become a certified teacher.
WCACP provides each candidate with a high resolution web-camera, microphone, and service to allow for interactive communication to occur over the Internet. The videoconferencing system is user friendly and can be set-up in less than ten minutes.
