In order to be considered “Highly Qualified” under The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), teaching candidates will need to successfully pass their content test.  Teaching candidates should prepare for and pass their content test early in their program participation.

Teaching candidates enrolled in the Web-Centric Alternative Certification Program (WCACP) will need to take and pass two certification tests to receive their standard teaching certificate.  The first test is the ExCET/TExES content test and the second test is the Pedagogy and Professional Responsibility (PPR) test.  Additionally, bilingual candidates will be required to pass the Texas Oral Proficiency Test (TOPT) to obtain their teaching certification.

Teaching candidates can sign-up for the certification tests online at http://www.texes.ets.org/.  WCACP submits approval to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) prior to you signing-up for a particular certification test.  Approval for your content test will be allowed once you have begun online classes and successfully completed adequate training to prepare you for your content area.  Your PPR test is not taken until you begin your one-year teaching internship.

Study guides to prepare you for your certification tests are available at http://www.texes.ets.org/prepMaterials/.  WCACP also uses a variety of study tools and testing software to help prepare candidates for their certification tests.

Test Fees:

Regular Registration -- $82

Late Registration -- $82 + 30
