Language Arts and Reading/Social Studies
The English Language Arts and
Reading/Social Studies 4-8 content area allows you to teach English
or social studies at the 7th and 8th grade level.
Requirement for Admission:
Individuals applying for the English Language Arts and
Reading/Social Studies 4-8 certification area should have a minimum
of 6 semester hours of college coursework in English related courses
(this can include communication classes) and a minimum of 6 semester
hours of college coursework in social studies related courses (i.e.,
history, geography, economics, government, or political science).
Alternatively, you can take the #113 English Language Arts and
Reading/Social Studies 4-8 TExES certification exam if you don’t
meet the minimum hour requirement.
